In July 2009, Primetel proceeded with the landing of a fibre optics submarine cable named “Hawk” with a capacity of 4Tbps. The Hawk cable is part of the world’s biggest submarine fibre optics cable system network, owned and managed by Reliance Globalcom. In 2011 the submarine was activated. This is the first time an independent telecommunications infrastructure is connected to an international network, securing alternative routing for the island and reinforcing Cyprus’ position as a telecoms hub in the wider region.

In 2010, Primetel hosted the 'TAMARES' submarine cable which connects Cyprus to Israel with multi Tbps capacity, in its landing station in Anatoliko Paphos. Tamares network offers an alternative route to reach major international hubs from Cyprus.

For the completion of the project, Primetel built a fully equipped cable landing station located in the Ayia Varvara area. Our Landing Station and Data Centre have been accredited with the most rigorous and globally recognized Information Security Management System (ISMS) Standard ISO/IEC 27001, for the provision of trusted Data Centre services to its customers. Primetel is the first Landing Station and Data Centre service provider in Cyprus, able to achieve this certification, which represents independent confirmation of highest security standards. It demonstrates our commitment to protecting our customers’ valuable information assets by maintaining the most stringent procedures governing security, resilience and business continuity.
